Linfield University‘s music ensembles, faculty, alumni and friends will perform a benefit concert, “United for Ukraine,” at 5 p.m. Thursday, March 17. The event will be held in the Richard and Lucille Ice Auditorium inside Melrose Hall on the McMinnville campus.
There is no admission, but donations collected at the door will support the nonprofit Accent Network. The Oregon-based charity is a 501(c)3 organization offering humanitarian assistance in Ukraine’s impacted communities and surrounding regions where Ukrainian refugees are located. The event will also feature a raffle for works by artist Michelle Bronstein.
“The creative community at Linfield University cannot simply watch what is happening silently,” said Anton Belov, a professor in Linfield’s Department of Music and an opera performer. “This performance is sure to invoke feelings of hope, grief and solace.”
In addition to Belov, the concert will feature performances by Linfield’s Concert Choir, Cascara Voice and Concert Band as well as Linfield faculty member Julie Cross. There will also be a few performances by a few alumni and friends of the music department.
Bronstein’s art depicts trauma and the healing process. As a first generation American with family ties in Ukraine, Uzbekistan, and Belarus Michelle felt compelled to create a collection of artwork focusing on the current Ukrainian crisis.
