CHAMBER ORCHESTRA: The Linfield Chamber Orchestra will kick off the 2009-10 season with Concert 1: Infatuation on Friday, Oct. 2, at 8 p.m. in the Richard and Lucille Ice Auditorium in Melrose Hall at Linfield College. For more information, call 503-883-2275.

THURSDAY, OCT. 8

READING: Ed Alwood, journalism historian, will discuss his award-winning book “Dark Days in the Newsroom: McCarthyism Aimed at the Press,” on Thursday, Oct. 8, at 7:30 p.m. in the Austin Reading Room at the Jereld R. Nicholson Library at Linfield. The reading is free and open to the public. For more information, call 503-883-2517.

TUESDAY, OCT. 13

ART EXHIBIT: An art exhibit, “After Hours – The Artists of McMenamins,” will be on display Oct. 13 through Nov. 21 at the Linfield College Fine Art Gallery. A round table with the artists will be held Wednesday, Oct. 14, at 4 p.m. in the gallery, followed by an opening reception at 6 p.m. The exhibit is free and open to the public. The Linfield Fine Art Gallery is open noon to 5 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday. For more information, call 503-883-2804.

FACULTY LECTURE: Amy Orr, associate professor of sociology, will present “Gendered Capital: Sex-Role Socialization and the ‘Boy Crisis’ in Education” on Wednesday, Oct. 14, at 7:30 p.m. in 201 Riley Hall at Linfield College.
