USA Today and ESPN give nod to Wildcat coach and former Yankee MVP

June 11, 2010 by Linfield News Team

By Linfield News Team

Linfield graduate Scott Brosius ’02 is now Coach Brosius, guiding the baseball team of his alma mater, Linfield College.

Brosius is a former World Series MVP with the New York Yankees, then left the game after the 2001 season with no regrets. He’d collected his three rings, a Gold Glove and an All-Star nod.

His return to Linfield is a labor of love; Brosius himself bought the field lights and infield turf.

This year’s team, largely the product of his recruiting, just nabbed third in NCAA Division III Finals, and was led by senior shortstop Kelson Brown, conference player of the year, and sophomore Ryan Larson, the league’s pitcher of the year.

It’s a long way from the bright lights, but not so far, after all.

The Linfield Wildcats achieved the winningest baseball season in Division III history. Linfield won more games and NCAA playoff games than any team on record.
