Gennie VanBeek, who has served as interim dean of Linfield University’s College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) since October 2022, has been named permanent dean by Provost Beth Concepción. She assumes the new role Aug. 28.
VanBeek, who holds a doctorate from Oregon State University, joined Linfield’s Department of Education in 2008. As an associate professor, her research focuses on students at the margins of public education, helping students improve their writing and making schools more equitable. Her time at Linfield has also included numerous administrative engagements, including serving as associate dean of CAS immediately prior to her interim appointment.
Before coming to Linfield, VanBeek taught adult basic education as well as high school and middle school language arts.
“I could not be happier to have Dr. VanBeek as part of the academic affairs team, and I look forward to working with her on CAS and Linfield goals,” Concepción said. “Gennie is a treasured colleague, both within CAS and the larger university community, and I know she will continue as a strategic yet thoughtful leader of our largest academic division.”
For her part, VanBeek said she is delighted at the appointment.
“I am thrilled to lead such an accomplished, dedicated faculty and staff in the College of Arts in Sciences,” VanBeek said. “I look forward to building on the great work we accomplished last year in fostering trust and community as we further the liberal arts mission of Linfield.”
