Linfield University has hired Vanessa Holfert as its new director of marketing. She brings more than 20 years of experience in brand strategy, creative leadership and marketing innovation. In her new role, Holfert will guide Linfield’s marketing strategy, strengthen its visibility and support the university’s long-term goals. As a member of the strategic communications team, she will report to Joseph Hunter, vice president for university advancement, and collaborate closely with colleagues Kathy Foss, director of strategic communications, and Candido Salinas, creative director, to advance Linfield’s marketing and communications goals.
Holfert joins Linfield after a successful career in both agency and in-house leadership roles. She has worked with companies ranging from startups to Fortune 100 brands. Most recently, she served as a strategic brand and marketing consultant, advising organizations on integrated marketing, organizational growth and consumer engagement
Previously, Holfert was a founding executive at Slumberkins, a nationally recognized children’s emotional wellness brand. As senior vice president of marketing and innovation, she helped scale the company from an early startup to an Inc. 5000-ranked business. During her tenure, Slumberkins grew revenue by more than 1,600% and expanded into entertainment, education and multimedia storytelling. Holfert also led marketing collaborations with Apple TV+, Nordstrom and Grammy-nominated artists.
“As a local community member, I know Linfield University is a special place,” Holfert said. “It combines exceptional programs with a passionate community of faculty, staff and students. I am eager to share Linfield’s successes on a national level, while also strengthening local connections. It’s an exciting time to elevate the university’s visibility and celebrate the people who make it extraordinary.”
Her background also includes management roles at CMD Agency and Koopman Ostbo Agency. There, she oversaw major client accounts and led creative campaigns for brands in education, technology, food and beverage, personal care and consumer products.
“Vanessa brings a proven record of leading successful marketing strategies and driving growth,” Hunter said. “Her expertise and leadership will help elevate Linfield’s visibility and strengthen our connection with students, families and the wider community.”
Holfert earned a bachelor’s degree in communication design with an emphasis in media arts and a minor in marketing from California State University, Chico. She is also an active member of the Yamhill County community. She has served on the Leadership Council for A Family Place, a children’s relief nursery, and is a board member at VIDA Coworking, an organization that supports working parents.
Holfert begins her role at Linfield on Sept. 15.
