Linfield College nursing students travel to India to offer health care in some of the country’s poorest, and sickest, neighborhoods. But they’re no slackers when it comes to taking care of their Portland neighbors, too.The morning before Veterans Day, they helped the Portland VA Medical Center honor vets — many struggling with the effects of war, disability, chronic illness and aging — by offering free flu vaccinations.
Student volunteers at the VA hospital included Aleksandra Cefal, Emily Lee, Caitlin Rhodes, Jenny So, Megan West and Bruce Wilson, all graduating in 2013. They were led by adjunct Professor Joyce Lear. Thanks to vets Rex Harold, Rogers Smith, Matt Hellman, Bruce Manning and Joseph Meeko.
