Work by artist Marianne Copene featured in the Linfield Gallery

Artist Marianne Copene exhibit“A Reason to Lean into Vastness,” a multi-sensory installation created by artist Marianne Copene, will be on display Oct. 16 through Nov. 9 in the Linfield Gallery, located in the James F. Miller Fine Arts Center at Linfield College

An artist talk, followed by an opening reception, will be held Wednesday, Oct. 16, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. in the gallery. The exhibit, “A Reason to Lean into Vastness,” studies an intimate relationship with the living world. The exhibit is informed by the daily ritual of farming.

“Held,” the artists main exhibit, is meant to resemble not knowing where to turn and falling into the life force of nature. It examines the deepening relationship with the living world while embracing a trust fall into the unknown.

Copene is intrigued by the way others define their deities such as celebrities, or saints. She is grateful to have found her deity outside. The exhibit will explore these ideas through multi-sensory elements such as light, sound, sculpture and video.
