Susan D. Hyde, a professor of political science at the University of California, Berkeley and a 2000 Linfield graduate, will deliver the commencement address to the class of 2018.
Linfield Gallery presents ‘History is a Hole’
Linfield Gallery presents “History is a Hole,” an exhibition and performance featuring Portland-based artist group Physical Education (PE). The project is a continuation of a chain-curation performance series first mounted at Pacific Northwest College of Art’s Center for Contemporary Art and Culture in 2017.
‘Silent Sky’ runs second week
A woman’s journey finding her way in the male-dominated field of astronomy is the focus of an upcoming theatre production at Linfield College. “Silent Sky” by Lauren Gunderson sheds light on the forgotten women scientists in history. “Silent Sky” runs April 19-21 at 7:30 p.m. in the Marshall Theatre in Ford Hall at Linfield.
Huntsberger lectures on ‘Waiting for Peace’
Michael Huntsberger, associate professor of mass communication, will present “Waiting for Peace: Creating a Documentary for Interactive Multimedia” on Wednesday, April 18, at 7 p.m. in the Fred Meyer Lounge in Riley Hall at Linfield.
‘Let’s Talk About Guns’ panel and student discussion set
Professors Daniel Pollack-Pelzner and Lindsey Mantoan will present “Let’s Talk About Guns” on Thursday, April 19, from 3-5 p.m. in the Fred Meyer Lounge in Riley Hall at Linfield. The event will include a reading of “Natural Shocks” by Lauren Gunderson and a panel discussion, followed by a student-led conversation.
Cello Extravaganza returns to Linfield
Linfield students and faculty will showcase an eclectic range of classical and non-classical pieces in an upcoming concert. The Linfield Cello Ensemble will present the annual Cello Extravaganza on Saturday, April 21, at 7 p.m. in the Richard and Lucille Ice Auditorium in Melrose Hall at Linfield.
Jonasson lecture will focus on Civil War monuments
David W. Blight, a professor of American history at Yale and the director of the Gilder Lehrman Center for the Study of Slavery, Resistance and Abolition, will present “Monuments and Memories: Has the Civil War Ever Really Ended?” on Wednesday, April 25, at 7:30 p.m. in 201 Riley Hall at Linfield.
Noted author Reyna Grande to speak at Linfield
Award-winning novelist and memoirist Reyna Grande will read from her works on Thursday, April 26, at 3 p.m. in the Austin Reading Room in the Nicholson Library at Linfield. Grande will also present a lecture at 7 p.m. in the Richard and Lucille Ice Auditorium in Melrose Hall. ‘Why Frederick Douglass Matters’ symposium held at Linfield
The life and work of famed social reformer Frederick Douglass will be celebrated with a day-long symposium honoring the 200th anniversary of his birth. The symposium will be held Friday, April 27, from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. in the Nicholson Library at Linfield College.
Career Services to host First Federal Internship banquet
Career Services will host a First Federal internship banquet on Tuesday, May 8, at 6 p.m. in Jonasson Hall, lower level of Melrose Hall. This is an invite-only event. First Federal supports Linfield students by providing stipends for students completing an unpaid internship with a Yamhill County-based non-profit. Organizations make proposals for a project to be completed by a Linfield student during the spring semester, and each of five students earns a $1,000 stipend for their work during the semester. The banquet is a night of celebration of the work completed by these interns – each makes their final presentation in the presence of First Federal officers, non-profit representatives and Linfield faculty and staff.

- Christopher Keaveney, professor of Japanese, has had two poems published recently: One in the online journal “Anapest” and one in the “Ephrastic Review.”
