Students in the Linfield College Class of 2017 arrived on campus nervous and excited for the next phase of their lives. They checked in, moved into residence halls, learned about various services and programs. See photos. They capped their first day with Cat Camp — learning about the traditions and quirks of Linfield.

Friday they heard Matthew Bogdanos, author of Thieves of Baghdad, present the keynote address at opening convocation.

This class has 466 incoming freshmen, along with 57 transfer students. Twenty-six percent are students of color and 17 percent are first-generation students. The majority of students are from Oregon, Washington, California, Hawaii and Alaska with 10 other states also represented. New international students come from eight different countries. The new class features valedictorians, student body presidents, class officers, newspaper editors, athletes, musicians and actors. They have been active in their communities through a variety of organizations. They have won honors and awards for their artistic, scholastic and athletic abilities. They are well-traveled, having visited some 57 countries.
