Linfield and Chemeketa forge nursing partnership

Nursing graduates from Chemeketa Community College flock to the baccalaureate nursing program at Linfield College, and the two colleges just made the transition a little easier.

Students prefer a one-stop educational pathway, and the Nursing Degree Partnership Program is designed to ease the transition from an associate degree program in nursing at Chemeketa to a nursing baccalaureate program at Linfield.

The partnership will reduce barriers, promote smooth transitions between the institutions and enhance graduation rates. Students will be able to access support services, libraries and multicultural outreach programs at both colleges, and will benefit from better tracking.

The project will also foster collaborative research between the two institutions.

Efforts to create the nursing degree partnership began two years ago, after Chemeketa officials surveyed the mid-valley medical industry and found a need for nurses with bachelor’s degrees.

The change goes into effect for this year’s class of 46 Chemeketa nursing students.
