19 Linfield employees complete Talent Development Program

A group of staff and faculty from across the university completed a personal leadership education program through Credo, Linfield’s partner on Moving the Needle (MTN). Offered exclusively to Credo’s MTN schools, the program promotes individual leadership growth and professional development surrounding trends and opportunities in higher education. Linfield Public Safety officials trained to administer lifesaving medicines

Linfield Public Safety wordmarkFrom counseling services to 24/7 courtesy rides, Linfield University promotes wellbeing and safety on campuses in many ways. Earlier this year, Linfield added a new resource to their toolkit: the university now has access to a supply of naloxone and EpiPens, and Linfield Public Safety (LPS) officials have been trained in using both in emergency situations. Textbooks included in tuition with new First Day Complete program

A student reads a book at the end of a library shelf.Starting with the 2023-24 academic year, Linfield University is rolling out a convenient and equitable way for students to get textbooks.

In partnership with Barnes & Noble, the First Day Complete textbook rental program will bundle all of a student’s required print and online course material for the semester ahead. Students can pick up all the materials in person or have them shipped for a small fee. Textbook costs will be included in tuition, which ensures that price isn’t a barrier for low-income students and that all students will have the materials they need for the first day of class. Opioid epidemic expert Dr. Harold Tu speaks May 3

Dr. Harold Tu ’71, a nationally renowned expert on the opioid epidemic and member of the Linfield University Board of Trustees, will speak on the background and current state of opioid abuse and overdose deaths at noon on Wednesday, May 3, in Building 2’s Lecture Hall 102 on the Portland campus and via Zoom. ‘One Wild Day,’ Linfield’s annual giving day, begins Wednesday, May 3

A group of Linfield students wear 'One Wild Day' t-shirts.Linfield University’s annual giving day, dubbed “One Wild Day,” will begin at 8 a.m. Wednesday, May 3, and runs through noon on Thursday, May 4. This yearly tradition invites all members of the Linfield community — including alumni, parents, employees and friends — to give back to Linfield students and programs. Since its 2016 start, the university has consistently collected above and beyond its pre-set goal. This year, the Office of Advancement hopes to raise $550,000.

Dutch Bros founder Travis Boersma coming to Linfield April 28

A Dutch Bros. "broista" hands a drink to a customer.Travis Boersma, the co-founder and executive chairman of Dutch Bros, will visit Linfield University on Friday, April 28. The keynote event will be a fireside chat, called “The Dutch Bros Story,” with Jennifer Madden, dean of the School of Business, at 11 a.m. in Nicholson Library (location), which is free and open to the public.

Boersma will discuss his rise from opening a Grants Pass push-cart coffee stand in 1992 to what is now a publicly traded company with 617 locations in 14 states. Parking is available in the lots off Lever Street; visitors may park in any non-reserved spot.  Continue reading

Inaugural BIPOC Wine Symposium draws huge names and packs Graf Hall

Linfield University’s inaugural BIPOC Wine Symposium drew more than 70 wine professionals and students from Oregon and beyond, including Robin McBride who, with her sister Andrea, runs McBride Sisters Wine Company, the largest Black-owned winery in the United States.

Hosted by the Evenstad Center for Wine Education at Linfield University in partnership with Asociación Hispana de la Industria del Vino en Oregon y Comunidad (AHIVOY), the daylong event featured panel and roundtable discussions, workshops on how to create a more inclusive industry and a tasting featuring wines from Black and Latinx winemakers.
