The value behind the interdisciplinary field of sport management will be the focus of a lecture by Robert Schneider, faculty member at The College at Brockport, State University of New York, Tuesday, May 15, at 11:45 a.m. in 222 T.J. Day Hall at Linfield College.

The lecture will provide a window into the field of sport management. Schneider will describe the details of the field and the disciplines behind it, including business, economics, health, human performance and athletics. Schneider will outline strategies for success in sports-related fields. Schneider’s lecture will also discuss his experiences and promote the value of Linfield’s new sport management minor offered through the business department.

Schneider earned his Ph.D. from Temple University. His interdisciplinary work overlaps the fields of business, marketing and economics with his areas of expertise in sport management, athletic administration, ethics of sport management and coaching. Schneider was the recipient of the 2010 Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Scholarship/Creative Activity, a scholarship award granted from the State University of New York higher education system. He has also published two textbooks, more than 85 articles in the field and presented in professional presentations internationally.

The lecture is free and open to the public. For more information, contact Jesús Ilundáin-Agurruza, associate professor of philosophy, at 503-883-2362 or jilunda@linfield.edu.
