Linfield College students welcomed community members to campus to celebrate the fifth annual Hispanic Heritage Day Saturday, Sept. 22, in honor of Hispanic Heritage Month.

Over 500 members of the Yamhill County and the Linfield community attended the event. The day included live music by Rebelde del Pacifico, performances by Aztec and bachata dancers, and free food provided by Lago De Chapala Restaurant and Sodexo. Other food items such as tamales, churros, elotes and snow cones were offered for sale. Activities included a raffle, piñata breaking, flower making and face painting.

More than 40 Linfield students, most members of Latinos Adelante, helped to make the day a success and welcomed community members to campus.

“People came from all over; we had a diverse group of people who wanted to be aware and learn through Hispanic Heritage Day,” said Miriam Morales-Ayala, a sophomore and student organizer for the event.

“Events like this make it known to the public that we are an accepting and diverse community,” said Ines Peña, a Linfield sophomore who also helped. “It also bonds our campus and makes us feel connected at Linfield.”
